These fraction activities were created to introduce, practice, and review fraction parts beyond one whole. It includes 10 days worth of lesson plans filled with activities and games to be used as a guide. These plans follow a guided math format that include a warm up, mini whole group lesson, independent practice, and small group ideas for you to use in your classroom.

The Texas TEKS cover halves, fourths, and eighths. The Common Core Standards cover halves, thirds, and fourths. Each activity in this unit will include an option for the TEKS and the CCS standards. Some of these activities also include fifths and sixths just for exposure.

These lesson plans are filled with hands on engagement and interactive notebook activities. Games and task cards are included. They are perfect for math centers and can be used all year long. You will not find lots of worksheets in this unit.

Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.
