This power point is used to introduce fractions. I've taken the lesson and broken it into 3 sections. The first section defines fractions, identifies the numerator and denominator, describes the function of the numerator, and the function of the denominator. In the second section, students identify the numerator or denominator of fractions and students create fraction stories that coincide with a picture on the slide. I've added this to the lesson this year since my district is focusing on students being able to talk about math. It truly surprised me at how much the students enjoyed doing this. They were really creative with their fraction stories. In the third section, students identify the fraction for the given model and then tell whether it is greater than, less than or equal to 1/2. After completing the power point, the students had a better understanding of the meaning of fractions.
