Equivalence Activity-conversion of fractions to decimals and to percents
This is an activity to increase student's number sense with fractions, decimals and percents. They will look at a picture of items and come up with a fraction to represent a particular part of their data (the part of the whole), they will then convert that to a decimal using either hand calculations or a calculator (at the teacher's discretion), and then convert the numbers to percentages.
After doing this they will total up all the numbers from the fractions, decimals and percentage column and will investigate the connection between the representations of whole numbers in all three columns.
There are questions at the end of the activity to assist the students in making this connection and also describing the process they used to fill out the table in words as a summative piece of the activity.
