This packet was written for younger children who are just beginning to understand the meaning of equal and fair shares. In this packet, students use cut paper to create food illustrations and divide into parts with crayon or marker to show the fraction represented. 2 options for creating the book are given. One is a whole page format and the other is a half page format.
Fractions included in this packet are one half, one third, one fourth. The packet begins with a page on the WHOLE thing.
A full color book with real life photographs is included to be used as an introduction to the concepts or as reference as each page is completed.
The Common Core standard for this packet is:
1.G.3. Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, fourths, and quarters, and use the phrases half of, fourth of, and quarter of. Describe the whole as two of, or four of the shares. Understand for these examples that decomposing into more equal shares creates smaller shares.
