I did this activity in my classroom once my students had an understanding of fractions of a set. They loved creating their fractions of a set ice cream sundaes!
The ice cream scoops are the set. I had all students use 8 scoops. Students colored the scoops to resemble chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavored scoops. Students chose how many scoops of each flavor they wanted. Then, I gave each student 8 whip cream dollops, 8 sprinkles, and 8 cherries (all on one sheet). I had them pick how many of each they wanted to use. Once the students assembled their ice cream sundaes, I had them fill in the correlating sheet that asks what fraction of the scoops are chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. The sheet also asks what fraction of the scoops have whip cream, sprinkles, and cherries on them.
