### Description

These Fractions on a Number Line task cards give students practice identifying a fraction on a number line as well as dividing a number line into fractional parts and placing the fraction in the correct position 3.NF.A.2. Students also explore improper fractions by working beyond 1 on the number line and identifying the fraction shown.

THESE FRACTIONS ON A NUMBER LINE TASK CARDS INCLUDE:
3 sets of 24 task cards
• Recording sheets

Set 1- Students record the fraction represented on the given number line. (3.NF.A.2a)

Set 2- Students divide the number line into equal parts and identify the fraction on the number line. (3.NF.A.2a)

Set 3- Students record the improper fraction represented on the given number line. (3.NF.A.2b)

This set also explores whole numbers as fractions, both equivalent to 1, and whole numbers larger than 1 (3.NF.A.3c)

Task cards are a great open-ended tool that can be used in so many ways in the classroom. From centers to whole class activities like Scoot and Solve the Room, these versatile task cards can be used throughout your fraction unit.

### Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand a fraction as a number on the number line; represent fractions on a number line diagram.
Represent a fraction 1/𝘣 on a number line diagram by defining the interval from 0 to 1 as the whole and partitioning it into 𝘣 equal parts. Recognize that each part has size 1/𝘣 and that the endpoint of the part based at 0 locates the number 1/𝘣 on the number line.
Represent a fraction 𝘢/𝘣 on a number line diagram by marking off 𝘢 lengths 1/𝘣 from 0. Recognize that the resulting interval has size 𝘢/𝘣 and that its endpoint locates the number 𝘢/𝘣 on the number line.
Express whole numbers as fractions, and recognize fractions that are equivalent to whole numbers. Examples: Express 3 in the form 3 = 3/1; recognize that 6/1 = 6; locate 4/4 and 1 at the same point of a number line diagram.
