I have found that many of my 6th grade students, especially those in math intervention, tend to struggle with the idea that multiplying a number by a proper fraction finds that part of the number. I use this memory game to reinforce and scaffold this concept. The students play the game by finding pairs of cards that match, a part of a number problem card and its solution card, in the form of a memory game. All of the problems can be done mentally, which allows the students to practice their mental math strategies and connect these skills to the concept of multiplying fractions. I use this game with my math intervention students, or as a center in my larger math classes.
