This project can be used in a 3rd-4th grade classroom after the students have learned about fractions and how to model what fractions look like. This activity provides another visual, besides pizza and pie, to help understand what fractions are and what they look like.
Students will create a town map. Each of the 8 streets in the town will be divided into sections. Third Street will have 3 sections, Fourth Street will have 4 sections, etc. Creating each street will help student divide sections for fractions.
Students will then have different objects and places to place on their map. Places and objects will stretch across specific distances on each street.
Students will clearly label all locations and add color to their map! Grading rubric is included and differentiation is on the next page. Enjoy!
