We think the FRACTO series of games are the most fun your students will have learning about fractions.

Junior FRACTO - Students learn to understand the following fractions:
1/2, 2/2, 1/3, 2/3, 3/3, 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4.

Each fraction card has both the visual representation of the fraction in the form of a colored shape as well as the fraction written in number form.

You can play three fun fraction games with this set of cards. They could also be used to play memory (concentration) games.
RULES are provided with the cards.

The JUNIOR FRACTO game was designed with the fractions all facing the same way. This was to reduce confusion for younger students and so that teachers/parents can play the game sitting next to a student while guiding them, as opposed to the more traditional way of being opposite each other.

The other two fraction card sets, FRACTO and SUPER FRACTO have written fractions on them that have been turned around on each card. Just have a look at a sample set and you will understand.

Junior FRACTO is a 66 CARD SET. The cards are in 6 different colors.
There is 54 fraction cards PLUS 12 action cards.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FRACTO - Students learn to understand the following fractions:
1/3, 2/3, 3/3, 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5, 5/5,
1/6, 2/6, 3/6, 4/6, 5/6, 6/6, 1/8, 2/8, 3/8, 4/8, 5/8, 6/8, 7/8, 8/8.

Each fraction card has both the visual representation of the fraction in the form of a colored shape as well as the fraction written in number form.

You can play FOUR fun fraction games with this set of cards.

They could also be used to play memory (concentration) games.
RULES are provided with the cards.

FRACTO has been designed for students from about the age of 7 up. It is one of the most enjoyable ways that we have ever taught our students about fractions. Even better is the games ability to really help students master an understanding of fractions of a whole using a variety of different shapes.

There is 156 fraction cards, (That's like 3 decks of normal cards.) PLUS 36 action cards.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We suggest you look at the files, then decide which file to use to print out the cards. If you have a duplex printer, use one of those files. Print it out as BLACK & WHITE first, to see how well it all lines up.

If it doesn't line up correctly, there's not a lot you can do with the PDF.

If you would like the ORIGINAL FILE of the BACK of the CARDS, I will email it to people who ask me for a copy. The original file is in MicroSoft PUBLISHER format. This would enable you to move the graphics slightly so that it lines up better with your particular printer.

FRACTO

YOU GET: 192 CARD SET

156 FRACTO Game cards in 6 colored sets.
36 FRACTO Action cards.
RULES for FOUR different games.

HINT: We suggest you print this card game out on cardboard (card stock), then you might like to laminate each page before finally cutting out the game cards. However, just printing them on cardboard worked well for us.

Another option is to print the cards out on paper, then laminate those. That works fairly well.

We have provided a variety of files so you can choose how to print out based on whether or not you have a duplex printer. Please note that lining up front and back pages can be a challenge due to the wide variety of printers and because duplex printing varies from printer to printer, so just do a practice run with a few pages before printing the whole document. Another strategy might just be to print it out in black and white to see how well it lines up on your printer.

If you have to choose which direction to flip the page in your duplex printer, flip the LONG side.

RULES for FRACTO

HOW TO PLAY—FRACTO For 2 to 6 players. Ages: 7 and up.

AIM: Be the first person to run out of cards. (Play with either 4 sets or 6 sets of cards)

1. Shuffle cards. Hand out 7 cards to each player—face down.

2. Players pick up their cards. Don’t show!

3. Place the remaining pile in the centre. This is the DRAW pile.
Turn one card from the draw pile over next to the draw pile. This is the GAME pile.

4. Players take it in turns to place a card on the GAME pile. When placing cards, players must match the color of the card or the size of the fraction. The card color is the OUTSIDE color.
If a player cannot take his/her turn, they must pick up a card from the DRAW pile.

SPECIAL NOTE: You can play the game WITH or WITHOUT using equivalent fractions OR you can simply match the EXACT SIZE (& numbers) of the fraction. Players need to decide this BEFORE playing.

ACTION CARDS

6. ACTION CARDS may be played at any time if their color border matches that of the top card.

7. Some ACTION cards can be played on top of each other. This doubles the ACTION for the next player.

Example: If a player plays the FRACTO card, all players must pick up 2 cards; however if the following player plays the same card, all players have to pick up 4 cards, except for the person who played the second card.

If a player plays the PICKUP 2 card, this can become PICKUP 4 if the next player plays another PICKUP2 card.

If a player plays the GIVE 2 of YOUR CARDS, the next player gets to give 2 cards to someone else. That is their turn. They got to offload 2 cards, instead of just 1. However; if they have a GIVE 2 of YOUR CARDS card, they may play it and the next person gets to give 4 of his/her cards away.

NOTE: If the player has the exact number of cards left, he/she wins the game. If they only have 2 cards left, they may only give 2 cards away and they MUST pickup 2 more cards from the DRAW pile.

ACTION CARDS—Further explanation.
If you only have 1 card left, and the two people in front of you played the GIVE 2 of YOUR CARDS, then you may give JUST 1 card away; however you MUST pickup another 3 cards. So this card can be an advantage or a disadvantage to the following player.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOW TO PLAY—FAST FRACTO For 2 to 6 players. Ages: 7 and up.

AIM: Be the first person to run out of cards.

First, REMOVE all of the ACTION cards from the pack. Shuffle the cards.
If it is a 2 player game, you use two sets of colored cards. Each person gets 26 cards.
(A mixture of the two colors)
If it is a 3 player game, use 3 sets of colored cards, 4 players = 4 sets of colored cards, etc
To start the game, each player is allowed to place on card on the game board/floor/table.
Each player may now place down their cards as FAST as they like. You may place cards on any pile. You may only place one card at a time. You must either MATCH the COLOR or the size of the FRACTION.
NOTE: Players must decide if to include equivalent fractions before the game begins.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOW TO PLAY—WHOLE FRACTO For 2 to 6 players. Ages: 7 and up.

AIM: Be the first person to run out of cards.

First, REMOVE all of the ACTION cards from the pack.
Shuffle cards. Hand out 8 cards to each player—face down. Players pick up their cards. Don’t show!
Place the remaining pile in the centre. This is the DRAW pile.
Turn two card from the draw pile over and place one on each side of the draw pile. This is the GAME.
Players take it in turns to place two cards on the GAME piles. Two cards must be placed on top of GAME piles. The two cards MUST equal a whole number (either 1 or 2). Eg 1/4 + 3/4, or 4/4 + 3/3.
If you cannot place two cards, you must pickup two cards from the DRAW pile.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOW TO PLAY—WAR FRACTO

For 2 to 6 players. Ages: 7 and up.

AIM: To have the MOST cards after playing a SET of WAR. A SET has been played when all 26 cards have been played.

1. Each player gets one color set of FRACTO cards.
2. Remove all of the ACTION cards so each player only has 26 FRACTO cards.
3. Players may organise all their cards in any order they like, then each player must turn his/her cards over so you can only see the back of the deck.
4. Each player in the game (1 to 6 players) turns his top card over and places it on the floor/table.
5. The player with the LARGEST FRACTION wins. Take the cards and place them to your side.

6. If it is a TWO player game and both players place the same or an equivalent fraction, each player goes to WAR and they must place down another card.
7. If the game is being played by THREE to SIX players, only the players who placed the LARGEST fraction must go to WAR and place a new card.
8. The player who places the largest fraction card after each game of WAR, puts the winning pile to the side.
9. Once a player runs out of cards, the game is over. The WINNER is the player who has the largest number of cards at his/her side from winning WARS.
