This Fractured Tale Unit focuses on creating a mixed up or ‘fractured’ tale from an original traditional folk or fairy tale. The student, to create this new amusing story, can change parts of the setting, plot, characters, and/or point of view. Black line masters are included to help students through the process of creating a Fractured Tale. There are many great opportunities for mini lessons (included) throughout this unit including using quotation marks, transition words, and alternate words for the boring over used word, ‘said’. There is also an opportunity for peer editing with an included Editing Checklist and Evaluation handout. Also included are Marking Guides for the written Fractured Tale (writing mark) and the Title Page (art mark).
