Included in this product are four engaging tasks.
Find the Location: Each student is given a card containing either a sentence, a fragment, or a run-on. They must decide which they have and go to a designated location in the room. There they discuss with other students their reasons for choosing their location.
Sentence, Fragment, or Run-on Sort: This activity requires students to sort cards into the three categories. For additional practice, students can correct the fragments and run-ons.
Make a Match: Students are sent in search of someone whose card matches theirs. For example, if their card is labeled “Fragment”, they must find someone with a card that contains a Fragment Sample.
Editing Fragments and Run-ons: This task gives students the opportunity to identify fragments and run-ons contained within narratives and to correct them as well.
If looking for a more comprehensive unit, you may want to consider Fragments, Run-ons, & Sentences CCSS Aligned 4th Grade Up. Along with these Practice Activities, this unit includes a PowerPoint to teach the differences between fragments, run-ons, and sentences as well as an Assessment.
