Bundle Description

Use these three engaging resources to help students identify complete sentences, sentence fragments, and run-on sentences.

I recommend starting with the PowerPoint (which contains a companion handout for students to write on), because it begins by reviewing the components of a complete sentence. The second section focuses on sentence fragments. After students identify and revise isolated fragments, they must read complete paragraphs and revise the fragment written within the paragraph. The third section highlights run-on sentences. After students identify and revise isolated run-on sentences, they must read a complete paragraph and revise the run-on written within the paragraph. In the fourth and final section, students read various sentences and identify whether they are fragments, run-ons, or complete sentences.

After completing the PowerPoint, have students complete the task cards, which includes both multiple choice questions and opportunities to revise/rewrite sentence fragments and run-on sentences.

Finally, the 5 worksheets provide multiple opportunities for students to analyze longer passages for sentence fragments and run-ons. Furthermore, each worksheet contains a chart with common editing symbols, and students must use these symbols as they revise each piece of writing.
