To help students recognize how Frankenstein addresses bioethical concerns of Shelley’s time (i.e. whether electricity could be used to raise the dead), this sheet helps students recognize the gray area that exists in many modern bioethical debates as they evaluate their own views. This sheet provokes deep conversation without being too controversial, and encourages students to consider both sides of bioethics issues.
You could extend this assignment by having students research each of the issues in more detail. This worksheet is best used any time after students read Chapter 5, when the details of Victor's creation are revealed.
