I typically provide students with an annotating focus for every major work we read. The last couple years I've began to put this information on a bookmark, which makes it easier to for students to keep important questions, key concepts, and particular focuses in mind. For this Frankenstein bookmark, I put four essential questions on one side, and their booknoting focus on the other side: a literary perspective approach (Psychological, Marxist, Feminist, Biographical, and Mythological) along with some guiding questions to help them think critically about Shelley's novel viewing it from this critical lens. Simply copy this document onto cardstock, use a paper cutter and you're good to go. Ultimately, their final essay on Frankenstein will be on their assigned critical approach.
