♦ Give students the INTRODUCTION TO FRANKENSTEIN HISTORICAL BACKGROUND GUIDED NOTES HANDOUT, and guide students through the accompanying LESSON 1 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND POWERPOINT PRESENTATION.
♦ Give students the HISTORICAL BACKGROUND QUIZ.

LESSON OBJECTIVES
♦ Identify and define characteristics of:
♣ The Enlightenment and the Romantic Historical Time Periods
♣ Romantic era poetry and the “Big Six” Romantic Poets
♣ Gothic Literature.
♦ Identify and recall facts about the author’s life and the development of the novel.
♦ Analyze the importance of the influence of specific literary works on the author and the novel.
♦ Identify and recall the novel’s main characters.
♦ Summarize and analyze poems and how they reflect the Romantic Period.
