This 28 slide power point introduces students to Prometheus and explains what "Promethean" traits are and how these traits are relevant in Frankenstein. Also introduced is Pandora's Box and its relevance to Frankenstein. Prometheanism is an excellent theme to explore, and this resource is best used prior to reading the novel, but it can be used at any time in order to have students understand and analyze this theme in the text. As students read, they are asked to look for textual evidence revealing how Robert Walton and Victor Frankenstein are Prometheans, displaying these Promethean traits. The final slide of this powerpoint asks students to closely read Letters I-III and look for specific textual evidence that supports the Promethean traits discussed in the lesson. BEST USED WITH MY PROMETHEAN TRAITS HANDOUT. This is an excellent resource to help students read more critically and develop deeper literary analysis skills. This powerpoint and my other powerpoint which details a close passage analysis of Letters I - IV, as well as the Promethean Traits Handouts are designed to scaffold students through finding good textual evidence and having them provide a discussion and analysis of how the chosen evidence supports the Promethean Traits that are discussed in this introductory powerpoint lesson. TEACHING DURATION: This power point should take approximately 45 minutes (viewing and discussion). The information from the power point will be used throughout the reading of the novel as students explore this theme.
