Although students often see the puzzle format as a fun task, it is an active learning activity. This is the type of activity that you could use with early finishers, or give to a sub teacher, or use as a filler on a day when you have nothing else prepared.
A word bank is supplied to support students. You could redact this to make the puzzle more challenging. I've used a two page format for the puzzle with the clue text and the word bank are on the same page, and the grid on a separate page.
The solution is printed on the third page. Download the preview file to see the solution and the grid.
