Frankenstein (TWO UNITS COMBINED) entire novel
Included in this unit are the following:
➢ A multiple choice reading test with twenty questions and answers. This is in the file itself and as a separate PDF. The test is broken down into two separate PDFs as well – the first one covers the very beginning of the book – up to roughly Chapter 9 (with 8 questions) and the second test covers the rest of the novel (with 12 questions).
➢ Two passages from the novel where The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is mentioned.
➢ A test with seven fill in the blank questions (each question has several blanks so there are a total of 18 words that need to be placed in the appropriate spaces).
➢ The answers appear in a word jumble at the end of the test. I do not always provide the words – it depends on how advanced the students are. If the words are provided I ask the students to define the words as well. Also, there are two questions in the test that ask for clarification to show that the student understands the passage.
➢ Fifteen words to define.
➢ An answer key for the test. Here the passages containing the missing words in bold included at the end of each question.
➢ The zip file contains eight separate units.
➢ 15 essay questions with 18 sub-questions. There is also a question that requires analysis of a small section of the text. These questions vary as to difficulty and are aligned with the following Common Core Standards:
➢ This unit allows for differentiated learning; some students may be more comfortable with the questions that focus on the lower levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy (remembering/ comprehension and simple applications/understanding), whereas other questions provide students the opportunity to focus on higher levels (analysis and evaluation).
I teach FRANKENSTEIN as either a FULCRUM or a TEXTURE TEXT usually alongside THUS SPAKE ZARATHUSTRA.
