Product Description

BACK TO SCHOOL is not just about building classroom community. It's also about establishing expectations of learning and introducing new ways to explore curriculum concepts.

Let's go beyond memorization of facts and concepts this year.

NEED A WAY TO BUILD DEEPER UNDERSTANDING of concepts in Math, English, or any subject?

WANT YOUR STUDENTS TO DO MORE than simply memorize a definition to "show" that they understand a curriculum concept or vocabulary word?

Then use the Frayer Model graphic organizer to

  • help your students think, analyze, and gain a real understanding of a concept
  • assess and evaluate whether your students really understand a concept.

SAVE HOURS OF PREP WORK and reuse this lesson / graphic organizer over and over again.

EXAMPLE:

  • MATH: equation, expression
  • ENGLISH: metaphor, simile

BUILD VOCABULARY & UNDERSTANDING

If you’re new to teaching, or haven’t had a chance to use the Frayer Model graphic organizer much, then this package is for you.

The Frayer Model is a powerful strategy for students to gain a better understanding of vocabulary and concepts. Instead of simply memorizing a definition from the teacher or textbook, using this graphic organizer and strategy will give your students a chance to

* play with their understanding by brainstorming facts about the topic,

* clarify their understanding by coming up with non-examples, and then

* communicate a more concise understanding of the topic

* develop critical thinking skills as they judge and evaluate which characteristics are essential to the definition.

The zipped file includes a lesson plan, powerpoint file, handouts, and posters to help your class build vocabulary and deeper understanding of concepts using the Frayer Model graphic organizer.

*DOWNLOAD THE PREVIEW PDF which contains the READ ME file for this product. It explains exactly what you get and how to install the BANGERS (comic book style font) if you don't already have it installed on your computer.

The lesson and powerpoint slideshow will give your class step-by-step instructions on how to actually use the graphic organizer, and how to actually revise and edit ideas.

- Work through a whole-class activity and explore the word: house.

- Give students the opportunity to test out their skills with the word: selfie.

Blank handouts are provided so you and your students can use this graphic organizer strategy effectively with any subject:

- To introduce and teach concepts

- To review understanding for assessments
