The Frayer Model is a vocabulary development and concept mapping tool. In contrast with writing a standard definition, the model helps to develop a better understanding of complex concepts. The Frayer Model not only has the students identify what something is, but it also requires students to consider what something is not. This allows your students to better understand the complexity of the term or concept. What a great way to take your students to the next depth of knowledge!

The center of the diagram shows the concept being defined, while the boxes around the concept are used for providing the details. This packet includes six different versions of Frayer Model for use in the classroom. Print them and you are ready to have your students concept mapping today!

Also included is an explanation page for using the Frayer Model with students, as well as directions for creating your own Frayer Model using a regular piece of 8 ½ by 11 inch paper.
