This guided meditation is suitable for distance learning and Google Classroom®. Practice stress management and teach students how to cope with anxiety and stress using this research-based visualization technique.

How to use this resource:

Meditation is a practice dating back to ancient civilizations, but also highly regarded by modern science.  Mindfulness is a widely discussed concept in current education, with some schools even replacing disciplinary measures with meditation sessions.

There is endless value in incorporating meditation techniques into your classroom routines. Peer-reviewed research has identified physical, mental, and social-emotional benefits, including increased focus, confidence, and self-awareness, along with reductions in stress, anxiety, insomnia, and depression. The guided meditation in this resource includes a snippet of researched-based information to support the body-scan technique.

Meditation is a lifelong tool that can be taught to students of any age group and in any subject area. As a certified Yoga Instructor and classroom educator, I created this mindful meditation script and recordings so that you and your students can gain from the endless benefits that this practice can offer. I have tried and tested all of my meditations with my students with plenty of success and positive feedback.  We found them especially useful when practicing public speaking.

This guided meditation has also been recorded and provided in .MP3 and .WAV format. You can use these resources to utilize meditation on remote learning platforms or to simply play the audio version of the guided meditation so that you can participate with your class.

Students may wish to understand the purpose behind meditation.  That's why I like to show Part 1 and Part 2 of Dr. Alan Watkins' "Being Brilliant Every Single Day," which demonstrates just how powerful mindful breathing practices can be. Dr. Alan Watkins approaches meditation from a scientific perspective with a live demonstration.  These videos can be found on YouTube.
