When students burst into class late, not only do they miss important information, but they also often derail the beginning of a lesson. Previously, I found myself pausing instruction to update attendance and field student excuses. Unfortunately, I also had students argue after the fact whether or not they had been tardy. I developed this system to minimize disruption and provide solid documentation when students arrive late. Once I began using the tardy slip system, late students were much less disruptive and students viewed the tardy policy as fair and uniformly enforced.
