This is a simple but effective color coding strategy I made up years ago. Now, with SmartNotebook, students can touch each part of a word and hear each sound / combination. Then, they can pull down the yellow 'cover' to reveal and hear the word in it's entirety.
This is a free sample. I will be making a product to purchase that contains the entire 220 Dolch sight
words over the next few weeks.
Note - when using on the Smartboard, you can also mix the letters up on screen, creating simple word puzzles, to rearrange back in their correct order.
This product can also be used on the iPad. You will need to have downloaded the SmartNotebook App (which you will need to purchase), but it does work nicely on the iPad. Students will be able to "Touch and Hear" the sounds, move the card to reveal the word, however, the app doesn't allow for the pieces to move around like a puzzle.
I will likely make a version that allows for pieces to be moved, but, then sound won't be available in that version. It seems the app can do one or the other, but not both at the same time. :( Maybe in a future update from the company...
For now, it's a great way to show kids how to break a word down into its "sounds" not necessarily all the single letters.
