These puzzles use vocabulary from Unidad 1 Etapa 1 of the ¡En español! Level 2 textbook. There are 8 different vocabulary puzzles:
-1 square puzzle with border words
-1 square puzzle without border words (easier)
-1 triangle puzzle with border words
-1 triangle puzzle without border words (easier)
-1 gem puzzle with border words
-1 gem puzzle without border words (easier)
-1 square/triangle puzzle with border words
-1 square/triangle puzzle without border words (easier)
The eight puzzles allow for easy differentiation in the classroom. You can allow students to choose which puzzle is best for their learning - a square puzzle, gem, or triangle puzzle? With the border words or without?
These puzzles can be used in a multitude of ways in the classroom:
1. Group or individual races. Have students work in groups or individually on completing the puzzles. I simply break students into groups, put on Spanish music, and let students practice with the puzzles (this could be turned into a competition/race as well). I usually include sticker prizes for the first couple groups/individuals done.
2. Station activity. If you're doing a vocabulary review day, this would be a great station or warm-up activity. Students must complete the puzzle before moving to a different station or activity.
