This set includes the posters and label templates for Classroom Standards Supervisor. Our Standards Supervisor is in charge of making sure the class knows what Common Core Standards we are working on daily. They read, lead others in reading, or call on another student to read the standard(s) we are focusing on each day. He/She uses the preprinted standard labels to put in the recording chart. After the lesson, during independent practice or center time, the Supervisor writes down the name of the selection we used to anchor or reteach the standards and finds another student to interview. The other student summarizes what he/she learned and gives a detail(s) to support that summary or tells how the standard is being applied in class work while the Supervisor takes notes. Then at conference/class meeting time, the Supervisor reports on the standard we were working on and shares his/her classmate’s summary and details.
I tried this idea with my second graders this year to help make sure I let them know which standards we were working on daily. I was not able to prepare the entire list of standards for second grade, but used the ones we repeated quite often. The students enjoyed being in charge of this, and I certainly kept on top of whether they were understanding the skills or not! Starting in March, many of my supervisors were able to write the standard in the square when I had run out of the correct labels.
I will be teaching fourth grade ELA this year and plan on using these sheets and labels. I think I will have a supervisor for each strand, or at least for the Reading, Language, and Writing.
I worked quite a while to make sure the PDF file of labels printed out correctly on Avery 5160 labels. Please give me feedback on whether this works for you or not. I would like any suggestions on improving the product or wishes you have for this classroom job. Thank you for looking!
