Short u/Long u Word sort
This literacy center activity teaches beginning and developing readers to read and distinguish between long and short u.
Just print one blank sorting chart and an appropriate word list for each student. They read the words and sort them according to the vowel sound they hear.
Easy to Differentiate:
Several versions of the word list make it easy to adapt the activity for different levels, from beginners just learning to sound out cvc words to more experienced readers practising the two vowels and silent e spelling patterns for long vowels.
The images and cartoons are from our book “Lazy Bear, Crazy Bear,” a collection of comics that teach long vowels and long-vowel spelling patterns. Published by HarperCollins and featured in Scholastic’s Seesaw catalogue, you can check it out on Teachers Pay Teachers here!
