Red Set is the first set in the Phonic Reader Book sets. Each book has eight words with a related picture. The Red Set starts with the vowel “a” and moves onto “e”, “i”, “o: and ends with “u” vowels. There are two books for each vowel. Each book has 8 CVC words to offer.
The words and pictures are not on the same page for a good reason. Not having the picture on the same page with the word eliminates the “guessing” as the emergent readers most often do. The child is encouraged to sound out the word before seeing the image. The images are chosen carefully to be child-friendly, modern looking, simple and as much as possible reality based.
Practicing the same concept over and over will allow the mastering of that concept. The focus here is phonetic reading of only CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. For the lack of enough CVC words to complete these sets and giving children ample amount of repetition for mastering the skills, some of the words have been repeated; however, I have used different images for the repeated words to keep the reading interesting and fun.
