This lesson overviews the three types of protected speech and the five types of restricted speech.
The lesson starts with the teacher presentation and a "hook" using an engaging case study (controversial!). Students then split into groups and work with the student version of the presentation to develop their own summaries of what restrictions on speech exist using a series of images.
After that, come back together as a class and go over the students answers and supplement their answers by finishing the teacher presentation.
*This presentation contains content requiring maturity, please preview prior to using it with students. I used it with my 9th grade students for a number of years without any issues.*
This is best taught AFTER my Texas v Johnson lesson, also available for purchase.
