This lesson explains the reasons why (and why not) a country would join a free trade organization.
Students first read an article describing what free trade agreements are, and the pros and cons of being apart of a free trade organization. Students organize these pros and cons in a t-chart.
Students are then put into small groups and are leaders of fictional countries. Students are responsible for deciding whether or not their country will join APEC and will write a letter to explain their decision.
Students then will fill out an exit ticket at the bottom of their t-chart explaining why the United States became a member and remains a member of APEC.
