COMMENTS:
• Such an easy and fun writing assignment. The kids really got into it!
• These are astonishing!

SHOWCASE STUDENT WRITING
This has always been my Go-To Writing lesson to showcase student writing! After all, kids like to talk about themselves! The result: brilliant writing from the heart and more confidence in writing. My students have always been proud to display these during conferences and Open House. Parents go from paper to paper, reading and discussing with other parents! The result: proud parents!

SAMPLE PARAGRAPHS FROM STUDENT WRITING
I am from a dichotomous orange bundle of frenetic motion and
Soft, silken fur, sprawled drowsily across a sunbeam,
Purring with contentment and comforting warmth; only the tail atwitch
My every action stalked by golden topaz eyes that glimmer and shimmer in the dark.

<><><><><><><><><><><><>

I am from sparkling seas and grainy beaches that make you ponder where such a perfect place could come from, dreaming about the island in your sleep, where the weather is warm, and seeing beaches dazzle just as the morning sun chooses to rise. Where stories and myths are told about how things came to be, making your adrenaline rush with excitement, and tremble with fear, leaning you back to the mystery that you were trying to set aside, letting you discover your true self and heritage.

<><><><><><><><><><><><>

I am from the semi-spicy taste of a Tombstone four meat pizza, baked so that the cheese on the edge of the crust is just turning to a light brown while the inner cheese is still almost all white, with sauce that burns the roof of my mouth because I am too hungry to wait for it to cool.

I am from the peace and quiet of a steaming hot shower, the kind where I just stand there half asleep with the hot water running down my back until my mom bangs on the door signaling me that I need to get out so I don't miss the school bus.

<><><><><><><><><><><><>

I am from the black hair and brown eyes that my mythological heritage left me with, with ancestries of Perseus and Hercules, but with also strict raising that has been passed down all these years, where perfection is required as a daily part of life. Where curls are normal, and the chattering of a unique language fills your ears every corner you turn, encouraging you to have the ability to have these words slide off your tongue with ease.

I am from beautiful phrases coming together to form charming songs that soothe the mind, yet make it wonder, with strings and keys and pedals and bows making you tap your feet along. With violins swaying like young trees to the right, and pianists storming their fingers to compliment the thousand note passages written so closely together that they seem to form a black, colossal mess.
