This is an engagement opener for our unit on Force and Motion. Students are put in a scenario where they have to work with the enemy to save everyone. They are trapped in a fire and there is only one flying broom. This puzzle challenges them to use their problem solving skills.
From this lesson, we go on to design and build prototype flying brooms similar to the ones seen in a popular children’s movie. A movie that shall not be named…… ; )
The images I put in this lesson were put there to symbolize the good guys and the bad guys. When I teach this lesson I have the students quickly draw their own good and bad guys to get across the fire.
