Project Based Learning (PBL) is a great way to enrich students and help them to see their math skills in a real world setting. In this Common Core aligned project students with enjoy a Social Studies Connection. In, Charity for the Holidays, students will learn how much money it truly costs to feed a family for the Holidays. Using technology, or ads brought in from a local grocery store, have students organize and price a holiday meal for a family of six. They will be amazed when they see how much a holiday meal for a whole family really costs. As a culmination to their research help students to truly connect and empathize by creating posters to advertise a local holiday food drive. Take it one step further! Help student hang their posters up around school or at a local venue to promote being active in their community. True Project Based Learning starts with lessons in the classroom and ends with a real life artifact as a result of those lessons.
