The Freedom Around the World research project is a perfect assignment to assign students who have been working on literature related to freedom (as was the case in my classroom) or students in social studies / history when oppression, revolution, or freedom have been recent thematic topics of discussion. It can work as an in-school assignment, an out-of-class assignment, or a blend of time-management requirements.
The basic requirements for the assignment are a research paper and a presentation using a slideshow format. Specific requirements as to the content of the paper and presentation are also provided on this project handout that can be given directly to students. Of course, as noted with all paid items from A Teacher’s Teacher, requirements can be added, removed, or modified as you see fit, since you will receive both a PDF (ready-to-use) version of the handout and an editable (.docx) version. Perhaps the most useful aspect of the handout is the list of 11 possible nations for research. This list is not exhaustive, and the handout does note that students can choose a nation that isn’t listed, as long as they receive teacher approval to do so.
In addition to the project handout, a simple rubric is also provided, which can be easily copied onto the back of the handout for student reference (and your later use). Point values and areas for grading can easily be modified, added, or removed on the editable (.docx) file, as well.
As always, A Teacher’s Teacher aims to provide you with useful tools that will help in the classroom. To this end, all files are provided in multiple formats for both easy access (.pdf) as well as editing and modifying for your own classroom needs (.docx).
