Description
Do you have active students? Do you want them to practice reading comprehension skills without making them sit still and get frustrated? This resource is for you! Plus, it helps the children learn about the people who protect the USA!
Why use Freedom Isn’t Free: Learning About the USA Reading Comprehension for Active Learners? Research tells us children need to move as part of the learning experience. This resource not only includes a reading passage and comprehension questions, but it also includes related brain breaks as well as opportunities to sketch about what they’ve learned. Plus, it can be used as a scoot game to keep the children moving.
How it works: Children are given an informational text about how the US military branches protect the country and our freedom. The teacher can choose to have students work individually, in small groups, or as a whole class to answer questions about the text, sketch what they’ve learned, and perform brain breaks related to the text. For differentiation, the teacher can go over the text with guided reading groups before using the included task cards, questions, sketches, and brain breaks.
This resource is great for Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Presidents Day, or any USA patriotic holiday.
What’s included: This resource contains informational text, 10 multiple choice questions that can be answered from the text, 4 related directions for sketching, and 6 brain breaks, all related to freedom, the USA and the 5 branches of the military. That makes 20 different ways the children can interact with the text! This resource contains directions on how to play Scoot, as well as other suggestions on how to use these materials.
