This test is designed to be an open-note or closed-note final assessment for Russell Freedman's novel Freedom Walkers. It has two sections. The first section is multiple choice, and the second is short answer. Each question is clearly aligned to a Common Core State Standard.

Freedom Walkers is a non-fiction book about the Civil Rights Movement in Montgomery, Alabama. There are chapters on many predominant African-American leaders in this movement, such as Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Claudette Colvin. The text explores how Jim Crow laws affected race relations in the south, and how a few key figures were able to inspire great change.
