The composition asks students to write about a typical day after school. I have included directions, an organizer, and rubric. This is often the first composition my students write in level 2 and I set high expectations regarding having an adequate introduction and conclusion, fluidity, and level of detail so I scaffold and help them with the organizer and getting started.
Also included is my "writing resources" and "useful" vocabulary that give students connector words (also, then, finally, etc) and common expressions that can be used in writing (I have fun, I like to, etc). The writing resource include my short-hand codes when correcting writing with explanation. There is a sample composition that a student wrote with my comment codes in the margin that I have students correct with me so they get used to my codes.
Scaffolding the composition makes the unit last 4 weeks roughly
