This is a great activity to help students learn how to use a dictionary (or a dictionary website).
First they are given 6 sentences that use the word TURN in different contexts. They are asked to explain what "turn" means in each context. Next, they are given words to look up and they are asked to write down the abbreviation that they see for the part of speech. They have to identify the part of speech of each word. Finally, they are given 5 sets of sentences. Each set uses a word in three different contexts (for example, birthday party, political party, to party) and they have to pay attention to the part of speech in order to find the correct word in the dictionary.
This is a great activity to leave in your sub binder.
