Getting to know you, getting to know all about you! Looking for a way to get your students to get to know one another and to build classroom community? Here's a fun activity to use. This activity is ideal for reviewing catching up at the beginning of the school year after Summer vacation since it provides students a structured format to get to know facts about the other members of the class. The questions cover most basic information covered in a French I curriculum, so it's a great way to start off your level 2 or 3 class as a review!
In addition to two 5x5 speaking boards (one with follow-up questions and one without), this file also includes a vocabulary sheet to help review all the necessary vocabulary and a structured writing sheet for students to make sentences to then share out with the rest of the class. There is also a journal-style activity for students to use the vocabulary to write an extended response about what they did over break.
Directions: Students move around the room asking each other questions and trying to find as many positive responses as possible. If a student answers a question affirmatively, the question-asker will ask a follow up question and jot down both the information and the student's name in the square provided. For an added incentive, you can make it a competition and have students try to either fill as many squares as possible in a specific time limit or try to find answers in lines of 5 "Bingo" style!
For a follow-up activity, students can share out what they learned about their classmates' summers as well as share their own information.
