Looking for a way to get your students speaking in the passé composé? Here's a fun activity to use. This activity is ideal for reviewing the passé composé and catching up at the beginning of the school year after Summer vacation or after Spring Break since it provides students a structured format to discuss what they did over their vacation.
In addition to the 5x5 speaking board, this file also includes a vocabulary sheet to help review all the necessary vocabulary and a structured writing sheet for students to make sentences to then share out with the rest of the class. There is also a journal-style activity for students to use the vocabulary to write an extended response about what they did over break.
Directions: Students move around the room asking each other questions and trying to find as many positive responses as possible. If a student answers a question affirmatively, the question-asker will ask a follow up question and jot down both the information and the student's name in the square provided. For an added incentive, you can make it a competition and have students try to either fill as many squares as possible in a specific time limit or try to find answers in lines of 5 "Bingo" style!
For a follow-up activity, students can share out what they learned about their classmates' summers as well as share their own information.
