La Nourriture et Les Boissons vocabulary and phrases can be reviewed with these printable vocabulary games and speaking activities. My basic French resources are made for students beginning French and near beginners in Grade 4, 5, 6 and 7 but they may suit others, depending on experience. Snakes and Ladders Board Game, a 20-card loop card set (‘I Have…Who Has?), a Jigsaw Puzzle, and 16 Activity Picture Card Boards (for Bingo, Tic Tac Toe or oral activities). Key phrases that can be developed using these resources include: Qu’est-ce que tu aimes manger? (What do you like to eat?), Qu’est-ce que tu aimes boire? (What do you like to drink?), Qu’est-ce que vous voulez? (What do you want?) Je voudrais… (I would like…). PDF format.
These resources focus on 30 key food and drink words, and a word list is included within the games file. As some words differ between US and UK English (fries / chips etc), I’ve included separate UK versions where relevant. Please check out the preview for more information about these resources.
SAVE money by purchasing this packet together with a 100-slide PowerPoint lesson presentation (also in PDF) and a packet of differentiated worksheets and puzzles in a French Food and Drink BUNDLE. More information on the games and activities in this French Food Games packet:
SERPENTS ET ECHELLES (Snakes and Ladders): Print and laminate the board. Play as normal Snakes and Ladders / Chutes and Ladders, but students have to say the French for the food or drink item they land on, otherwise they must move back. An instruction card and details of a challenge version of this game are included in the file.
LOOP GAME: Whether used as whole class or group oral activity or a dominoes activity in pairs, this 20-card set is ideal for a starter or plenary session. Forms a continuous loop so you can start anywhere. Students could use the words "J'ai..." and "Qui a..." (I have...Who has?).
JIGSAW PUZZLE: 30-piece Hexagon Jigsaw Puzzle. (Includes Answer Key). Print and laminate for regular use. Students must ensure the triangle pieces are positioned so that the words on each side lie alongside the translation in the other language. Makes a large hexagon when complete. Ideal for small groups or as an individual, or paired early finishers task. Some students love to race each other to complete it. Color and black and white version included.
PICTURE ACTIVITY CARDS: Can be used as bingo cards with the teacher calling out French food and drink vocabulary (a list of the key vocabulary is included). Alternatively, use these cards for a game of tic tac toe (noughts and crosses). Students choose food and drink to say aloud in French before using a marker to write their symbol over the relevant image. 16 cards, 9 pictures on each. 30 different foods and drinks featured. These could be used for other activities - cut them up into individual pictures for paired oral activities, for example.
Color printing will be required for some resources in this packet, otherwise it could be difficult for students to identify items like orange juice and milk.
