Have your students do authentic on-line food shopping by visiting “Supermarches G20” in Paris, France! This modern “supermarche” shows how shopping has changed over the years in France and where it now offers on-line shopping to the French people. Of course, the French still love their specialty stores but life has changed there as it has around the world with the use of modern technology. Their on-line store includes food for everyone and so this internet activity focuses on shopping and making imaginary purchases on-line. The store’s motto is: « Dépenser moins sans aller loin »
The students have a variety of scenarios that they need to think about and are asked to buy the food that they would need for: un pique-nique, le petit déjeuner, un repas avec les grands-parents, les boissons favorites, une collation and le déjeuner à l’école. This activity fits in well when teaching a unit about French food! I have made charts to be filled in by the students for each “theme” listed and they must complete the charts with the following information: Nourriture, Marque, Prix, Quantité, Unité, and Total.
Included is a link to a “currency conversion” site.
This product is written in French.
Website link has been updated as of March 6, 2017.
This will help the students to compare costs in their own city with those in France. Collect newspaper grocery store flyers for your city to supplement this activity and to allow students to compare the differences between the two countries. You can decide whether you will give students a set amount of fictional euros to spend or not. I have also included a list of “vocabulaire” for the students to use while shopping on the site to help them navigate the main topic areas.
