French food unit lesson PowerPoint presentation (100 slides) to introduce and review French Food and Drink (La Nourriture et Les Boissons) vocabulary, originally made for beginners / near beginners in Grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 but may suit other grades. 30 key food and drink words are introduced and key questions and answers linked to the topic are also featured. This PowerPoint scaffolds students’ learning around the ordering of food and drinks and giving opinions about them. Slides feature answers that appear on a mouse click. Activities and games are also included: role-play slides (plus answers) and slides for games of Splat (students hit the correct food or drink image when the teacher calls it out in French) and the memory game, Kim’s Game, where pupils compete in teams or as individuals to spot which food or drink image has been removed.
There are two PowerPoint files included in the Zip file to suit different countries - in addition to the version with US English, there is a UK version, with terms like 'candy' and 'fries' replaced by 'sweets' and 'chips'.
Some of the key phrases that are included: Qu’est-ce que tu aimes manger? (What do you like to eat?), Qu’est-ce que tu aimes boire? (What do you like to drink?), Qu’est-ce que vous voulez? (What do you want?) Je voudrais… (I would like…), J’ai faim! (I’m hungry), J’ai soif! (I’m thirsty). Some grammatical points in relation to talking about food are also introduced.
