Product Description

This product was created to complement the Ontario Curriculum Grade 3 Science strand;

Expectations are stated at the top of each page to help guide your lessons. They are written in the form of "I can" statements; "Je peux..."

→ Teacher Guide Included ←

☼ Students will identify magnetic and non-magnetic materials in their environment.

• Interactive pages; students sort objects into categories (MAGNÉTIQUE ou NON MAGNÉTIQUE). Add this activity to a science notebook or as part of a hands-on experiment to test each object.

• Use the pages that are already organized to stimulate class discussion and add them to science notebooks. They can also serve as answer keys for students to self-check their work.

☼ COLOUR POSTERS with collages of images representing each force along with Title Page/Header for your science wall or centers!

☼ BLACK & WHITE copies of the posters - Use them as student think sheet handouts as you introduce each force. A summary page is also included for adding to notebooks or to accompany the project page.

The definition is stated on each poster↑

☼ Les forces naturelles

• Students will describe the visible effects on the environment of natural forces (strong wind, flood, blizzard, hurricane, tornado, storm, soil erosion, landslide).

• Take a closer look at erosion by investigating how human activities contribute to erosion and how we can reduce it. Use non-fiction sources such as books and websites. I have also included the sample prompts (in French) from the curriculum document to help with this research activity.

☼ Students will assess the impact of safety devices that minimize the effects of forces in each of 12 various human activities.

☼ Students will identify ways that forces are used in their everyday lives. Identify each image and explain how/why it's used and why it's useful in our everyday lives. Each force is represented by six images. Each force is defined at the top of the page.

☼ Students will describe how forces applied to an object at rest cause it to start, stop, attract, repel or change direction. Also, they will explain how forces are exerted through either direct or indirect contact.

• A series of practice pages with different images will prompt students to identify the force(s) represented and describe the movement that occurs as a result. There are several possible answers for each and assessment should be based on the student's ability to justify his/her response.

• A word bank (banque de mots) is provided at the top of each page to help with the necessary vocabulary.

• Tension (le tension) and Spring Force (la force du ressort) are included as well.

☼ The culminating activity asks students to demonstrate their understanding of forces and movement by designing and building a device that uses a force(s) to create controlled movement. For example, a boat pulled through the water by magnets, a crane that lifts a load or a marble run. This could be used as their science fair project assignment.

- An English version of the project is also included. I like to copy them back-to-back and send home with students for those whose parents don't speak French but wish to understand the project.

- Rubric is included for assessment (Expectations are written in English).

• Mind map / brainstorming organizer (Planificateur de projet) is also included for planning their project.

• Student cover page is also included (black & white version of product cover) for creating booklets and/or units inside duo-tangs or binders.

Add your own ideas as well to help students explore and understand 'Les forces et le mouvement' !
