Level II students are expected to understand conjugation in the present tense and to continue sentences by providing additional information (with whom, why, where, when, etc). In lieu of compositional writing I ask students to write an original story with an introduction, an "uh-oh" moment, a resolution to that moment, and a conclusion in the target language. I provide them with puzzle pieces of illustrations that fit together to guide a sequential story. Students have the freedom to write an original story that is school-appropriate. They enjoy this activity and I enjoy reading their original stories.
This rubric is what I use to evaluate their writing. I give students the opportunity in class and outside of class to revise their writing and improve their grade.
