A collection of activities to help your students learn the difference between bugs and insects.
Sorting and Classifying:
Pages 1 and 2 are a sorting and classifying activity. After teaching students how to distinguish bugs from insects have them cut out page to and sort it into the appropriate columns on page 1.
Research and Writing:
Pages 3 and 4 are pages that allow students to write about an insect of their choice. The first page is guided with starter sentence already in place. They second page allows students to write anything they like about their insect. Page 4 could also be used as a fictional insect writing activity.
The last page is a little song to help students remember the characteristics of an insect. It is sung to the tune of "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes." I learned it from the people at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Ontario.
