This Internet activity allows students to research French inventors in history. Also included are some Swiss, Belgian and French Canadian inventors. Inventors span from the 1600s to the 1970s. – more than 30 inventors! Included in this project are a Student Project Directions sheet and a teacher’s sheet with the inventors listed, their invention and the year that it was discovered. Also, included is a “marks” sheet. The last two pages are the list of inventors in a larger font so that it can be cut up and distributed to the students. This will give you the choice of either assigning a specific inventor to a student or to “draw” the names from an envelope of hat.
Some of the inventors included are: Louis Braille, Rudolf Diesel, Jacques Cousteau, Henri Fabre, Jean Nollet, Louis Pasteur, Louis Réard, Adolphe Sax, Camille Jénatzy and François-Louis Cailler. Students are encouraged to be aware of subject/verb agreement, pronoun placement, correct verb tenses, sentence structures, correct use of accents along with acquiring researched information pertaining to the inventor, the invention itself, the impact of the invention on society and to include pictures of both the inventor and his invention. Students are asked to use a presentation format of: PowerPoint, Word, or even making a Prezi.
