This interactive flipchart for Promethean/Activ Board is a great introductory French lesson for teaching months and seasons. After listing the objectives, the lesson opens with a review of French pronunciation. The next couple of pages teach students their vocabulary terms using visuals, followed with a higher order thinking question inviting them to think about the differences in the way we write months. Next, is a Kagan-based warm up activity using shoulder partners. Following this activity, is an interactive spelling game where students are invited to drag groups of letters to spell French words correctly. The next several slides are “Show Down!” games where students may use their marker boards (or a piece of paper), so the teacher may check for student mastery (whole group). The next game is a “Link It” game wherein students gain knowledge of all the components of each vocabulary term: word, translation, and visual. Following this, is a slide that allows the class to review and close the lesson. Last, is an individual journal activity. For this, you can break your class into groups, so that they are all working on different journal entries, or you can pick one and have the entire class do it.
*The suggested grade level of this lesson varies on the students’ prior knowledge of the French language. In my opinion, it is suitable for grades 1-6, but students above or below these grade levels may also benefit, depending on prior knowledge and concepts. Please read description of lesson, and review thumbnails and preview to determine if this lesson is appropriate for your French students.
