Activity to introduce students to common French first names. Starts with a look at French names that are similar to English names. Continues with a discussion of how first names are typically associated with a gender. Ends with a list of French names. For each name, students guess whether they think it's a girl's name or a boy's name.
I usually do this during the first few weeks of French 1, right after students learn the il/elle forms of verbs and as they learn the words "fille" and "garçon." For each guess, they can say "C'est une fille/un garçon!" Great for reinforcement of these forms!
