French Passé Composé (Regular Verbs) Card Game, Half Dozen
Students enjoy this communicative activity that gives them lots of opportunities to practice verb forms and sentences in French.
The goal of the game is to collect verb families. Each verb family has 6 (une demi-douzaine) cards. The deck contains 7 families which are identified by 7 infinitives. Each family has 6 members (the 6 conjugations of the infinitive-Je, Tu, Il/Elle/On, Nous, Vous, Ils/Elles).
Cut out the individual cards and put them together in a deck. The game can be played in groups of 3-4. Begin by distributing 6 cards to each player. The rest of the pile remains face down in the middle.
Player 1 starts the game by asking any player if he has a verb form he is looking for.
Ex: Est-ce que tu as la forme « tu » du verbe « parler »?
The player may only ask for cards for an infinitive that he has in his hands. If the player asked has the card, he will give it to player 1. Player 1 will ask again. If the player asked does not have the card, he will say “Pioche” and player 1 will take a card from the pile, and play will continue with the next player.
When a player collects all 6 forms of a family (infinitive), he announces it to the group and puts the entire family down for everyone to see. To add a speaking component, the player can be required to say a sentence using one of the verb forms to demonstrate that they know what the verb means.
The player with the most verb families at the end of the game wins.
There are two versions of the game.
