Students analyze Victor Hugo's "Demain dès l'aube".
This product is part of a new series asking students to analyze poems in French. Literary analysis underscores the importance of second/foreign language literacy. At the same time, students develop their analytical skills that can be applied to ELA. These skills are very important to Common Core, of course!
For each poem, questions focus on vocabulary, structure, and author’s purpose. This wide focus makes the proposed activities interesting for different levels. This is particularly important for teachers who teach students of different French levels in the same classroom. There are also different versions available in each document, clearly outlining how to adapt the material for different levels. These activities are also suitable for a homeschool audience.
Answer keys and links to outside resources included. :)
Each analysis takes between 1 and 2 hours. I propose 30 minutes for a guided reading and another 30 for students to work on an analysis. Generally, students begin their analyses in class and finish at home. They could then share their ideas with their classmates during a second class period.
